Since Inspire Your Day's inception in October 2006, I have been awaiting a worthy cause for us all to assist in.
However, nothing really created a stirring in my soul or made my heart open.
Then on May 2 Cyclone Nargis devastated Burma making contact in the low lying Irrawaddy Delta and around Rangoon. With over 2000 villages flooded and 1.7 million people homeless I knew I had finally found Inspire Your Day's cause.
'The Burma Housing Project'
Daintree Bungalows fit a family, are suited to the tropics, are cyclone resistant to W65 and made of timber and pre-fabricated plywood construction, with a single skin timber frame. The glass has been replaced by perspex (so that if cyclonic winds come along glass doesn't shatter causing risk to human life) there is insect screening and can be all packed up as a kit in a shipping container. Best of all the frame and roof can be erected within a few hours.
In Australia the price for the materials to build a Daintree Bungalow is approximately $20,000. If the resources come from Thailand to Burma it would be cheaper and the local people could create employment.
I have contacted Care Australia, World Vision & Austcare who are all keen to hear more about them for purchase and donations in the short to long term.
